Do your fingers look dingy and sad? First, get to the doctor. Doctors can see clues to conditions like asthma, improper nutrition and stress just by looking at a patient’s fingernails. If your doctor says you’re OK, you might just need a little fingernail first-aid. Here’s what to do…

If your sad fingernails are caused by wear-and-tear and neglect, consider a daily soak in a soothing warm oil treatment. Just warm up about one-quarter cup of olive oil, sesame seed oil or wheat germ oil (our personal favorite for nail care) in the microwave for 20 seconds or so on high (cover your small warming bowl or cup with wax paper or plastic wrap). Dip in your fingertips, and relax for 10 minutes. As you gently wipe off the oil, give your nails a mini-massage from top to bottom. You should see better nails in a week or two.
