If your feet get tender and achy, you might be holding stress in your feet, says fitness-therapy expert Jill Miller. Her easy-to-do move releases foot tension and makes for happy feet. All you need is a small, hard ball such as a racquetball—and a wall.

Here’s how to tell if that is your problem: You have heel pain, achy arches or soreness in the balls of your feet.

What to do: Stand next to a wall for balance, and place a racquetball under your right foot. Load your weight onto the ball, then move the ball from side to side, and up and down, under the sole of your foot. If you’d like to, you can place your left foot on top of your right foot to sandwich it and massage your right foot from above, helping it to destress, Miller says. Do this for one minute, then switch feet. Do this at the beginning and end of each day as well as anytime you sense tension building up in your feet.

Important note: If you have persistent foot pain, see a health-care professional.
