The 30-Second Food-Craving Cure

Got those late-afternoon munchies? Or late-night cravings? It can be tough to resist overeating between meals when mouthwatering images are so intense in your mind.

The quick and easy solution is at your fingertips…

What to do: Tap your head! With either index finger, tap your forehead for 30 seconds.

What it does: This simple motion will reduce the intensity of your food cravings. In a study of 55 obese people at Mount Sinai-St. Luke’s Weight Loss Program in New York City, it was the most successful “distraction” tactic…better than tapping your toes, tapping your ear or staring at a blank wall (the control group). All worked, but forehead tapping was the most effective.

How it works: No one knows for sure. But it’s possible that simply distracting yourself can be a brief time-out that lets your emotional urges calm down…plus, forehead tapping might stimulate an acupressure region that reduces stress hormone levels.
