How to Remove Grease Stains from Touchy Upholstery

You went and had a party in a fancy part of the house, and a few grease stains landed on a “professionally clean only” surface, such as an antique sofa. You know you can’t use harsh soaps or anything wet at all to scrub away at the spot. Here’s what to do:

Apply a layer of cornmeal to the stain, and let it stay on overnight. The next day, vacuum up the cornmeal—and all or most of the stain should come up too.
