• Protect your vision: June is Cataract Awareness Month. See an eye doctor if you experience blurred/double vision or ghost images—or feel as though you have a film over an eye. Age-related cataracts can occur even in people who are in their 40s and 50s.
  • Check hurricane insurance coverage: The official Atlantic hurricane season begins on June 1. Most insurers have changed from dollar-amount deductibles to a percentage of the home’s insured value. You may be able to obtain a dollar deductible by paying a higher premium. To cut costs: Choose a higher deductible—or make designated home improvements.
  • Cool cars quickly: To draw out hot air, open one window. Then open and close the door on the opposite side about five times. Variation: Open all windows. Then go around the car twice, opening each door on the first circuit and closing each door on the second.
  • Fish for free: Many states offer license-free fishing in June. Look up dates at TakeMeFishing.org/nfbw.
