If you use a store-bought aerosol oven cleaner, vinegar comes to the rescue again. Prevent the awful smell and smoke that result when you turn on the oven by wiping the inside of the oven with undiluted vinegar after cleaning with the commercial spray. It neutralizes the lingering effects of the irritating alkali.
