• Fight hay fever: Follow a low-protein diet, with minimal dairy intake. Acupuncture or hypnosis may help stop seasonal allergies. Alcohol can make symptoms worse.
  • Boost immunity: August is National Immunization Awareness Month. Be sure you and your loved ones have had the recommended vaccinations. Resource: CDC.gov/vaccines/schedules.
  • Don’t ignore safety rules for gas grills: Always open the lid before turning on the gas—and then light the grill immediately. If it doesn’t work right away, turn the grill off and wait three to five minutes before retrying. Also: Check for leaks at least once a season. Spray or brush soapy water on the connections and hose. Then turn on the gas, and look for bubbles.
  • Earn your wings: Saturday, August 22, is Be an Angel Day. Consider making a charitable donation…feeding a stranger’s parking meter…picking up litter…sending an unexpected thank-you note…or doing some other good deed.
