If you are concerned about your appearance, you might know that sugar can cause wrinkles. In this video, expert nutritionist and skin-care guru Ginger Hodulik Downey, MS, CNS explains why sugar is particularly damaging to our skin. When we consume foods with sugar, the sugar in our bloodstream attaches to proteins and causes inflammation. As a result, our skin cells become rigid, inflexible and unable to absorb nutrients. Damaged skin cells lose flexibility and strength. This damage results in wrinkles. By consuming less sugar, we can prevent our skin from becoming wrinkled.
