Party-giving season is right around the corner. When isn’t it time to give a party, we ask? Anyway, place cards at your dinner table help make your guests feel special. Here are a few of our favorite ideas…

When we recently attended a private business dinner at the famed Four Seasons restaurant in New York City, we noticed that each place setting had a tent-shaped place card with the name of the guest printed on both sides of the card. That way, you can see the names of the people sitting across the table from you, as well as the names of people seated on either side of you—and they can all see your name as well.

For a pasta party (or if you are serving pasta at your Thanksgiving gathering), use a permanent marker to write each guest’s name on a piece of uncooked lasagna. Place the hard lasagna noodle on each dinner plate setting.

Bicycle nameplates (sold in toy stores) serve as novelty place cards that can be taken home as souvenirs. If you need to invite two people with the same name, use a permanent marker to write in a last name or initial.

Buy a rubber stamp (available at crafts stores) that’s appropriate for Thanksgiving (or any other celebration you have coming up). Also buy an ink pad in a stand-out color. Fold an unlined 3″ x 5″ index card in half (tent style), and stamp it, then write the guest’s name on it to make your own creative, personal place cards.
