Do you want to leave some evidence for little ones that Santa Claus has indeed made a visit? Here’s what to do…

This idea requires stencils of a pair of men’s boots and flour (or baking soda…see below) in a sifter.

To make boot stencils: Place each boot on a big enough piece of cardboard—you can use the thin cardboard that comes from the cleaners in a man’s shirt, or use a manila file folder. Then outline a right boot and a left boot, and cut out the insides of the outlines. You will now have cardboard stencils of a pair of boots.

Once the wee ones have visions of sugarplums dancing in their heads, figure out the path Santa would take from his entrance into the house (a fireplace is, of course, ideal) to the Christmas tree. Place both stencils on the floor, creating Santa’s first two footsteps inside your home, and lightly sift the flour over each (it should look like snow from his boots).

Gently and slowly lift each stencil, and dump the excess flour into a paper bag. Now you’re ready to create Santa’s next two footsteps. Keep repeating the footstep process all the way to the tree, then back again to the fireplace (or other point of entry/exit).

The flour will vacuum up in seconds the next morning. If you have a rug or carpeting, you may want to use baking soda instead of flour. The baking soda will actually help clean the rug!

Note: This suggestion may not be a practical Christmas surprise if you have pets roaming around the house.
