Help for Dark Circles

Under-eye bags, puffiness and dark circles are hereditary, so if your parents had them, you probably will, too. Skin becomes thinner as we age, so tiny blood vessels around the eyes become more visible. Eye creams with caffeine, such as 100% Pure Organic Coffee Bean Eye Cream and Garnier Skin Renew Anti-Puff Eye Roller, temporarily constrict these blood vessels and help hide dark circles and puffiness. Lack of sleep and fluid retention can trigger puffiness. You should address any problem that can cause you to retain fluids, such as a kidney or thyroid condition or too much salt in your diet. Sinus conditions or allergies also can cause under-eye bags or dark circles. Elevating the head of your bed a few inches will help drain fluids from your face.

For a more permanent solution, a cosmetic dermatologist can inject dermal fillers, such as Juvederm or Restylane, to fill hollows under the eye. Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, can tighten sagging skin that causes puffiness.
