Is your head cold all in your nose? Are you dreaming of sleep-filled nights when the breathing is easy? Nighttime cold medicines can contain alcohol and often disrupt sleep rather than help you heal. Here’s what to use instead…

Just before bed, eat a teaspoon of prepared (or freshly grated, if you can take the heat) horseradish topped with a half-teaspoon of ground black pepper (or more, if you’d like). Breathe deeply as your nasal passages clear…and settle into a deep sleep.

If you can’t hack the horseradish, swallow one-half teaspoon of honey with freshly ground pepper sprinkled on it. Don’t inhale the pepper or you’ll replace the sniffles with perpetual sneezing. Repeat whenever your nose clogs up…and when you need a healthy nap!

Caution: Diabetics and people with honey allergies should not use honey. If your symptoms continue for more than a few days, see your doctor.
