The two most common are anorexia (self-starvation) and bulimia (bingeing followed by purging). Besides watching for dramatic weight loss in people at risk for an eating disorder, concerned individuals should be on the lookout for increased exercise…excessive food intake followed by disappearing to purge…or wearing baggy clothes that obscure the body’s shape. Eating disorders are primarily associated with women, but the prevalence of these disorders is rising among men.
