We expose our eyes to a lot these days: computer screens, smartphones, tablets, big TVs, tiny type in bad light and dirty air as we work and play late. No wonder eyestrain is so common. Here’s some relief…

Itchy eyes? Press here: Are your eyes tired and itchy? Don’t rub them! Do this instead: Step away from the computer, and look out at the beautiful blue sky. Pinch the ends of your index and middle (second and third) fingers of each hand for 30 seconds on each finger. If your eyestrain isn’t relieved after two minutes, do another round of pinching.

Soothing herb for eyestrain: What better name than eyebright for an herb that can soothe sore eyes, alleviate eyestrain and clear up bloodshot eyes. Mix one ounce of eyebright—the whole dried herb, available at health-food and herb shops—into a pint of just-boiled water. Let it steep for 10 minutes, then strain through a superfine strainer. Drink a cup of the tea. Use the other cup of tepid tea for dipping cotton pads and placing them on your closed eyes. Leave the damp cotton pads on your eyes for about 15 minutes. Blink…and then see and feel the difference!

Healing tea for puffy eyes: After a night of tossing and turning (or too much late-night partying), your morning eyes might look like fat little balloons. Wet two chamomile tea bags with tepid water (you don’t need to steep in boiling water), and place one on each of your closed eyelids. Relax that way for 15 minutes. Whistle or talk to yourself to keep from falling back to sleep! Your eyes will deflate and feel great.
