Recent finding: The blood vessels of people who smoked less than a pack of cigarettes a week were 36% less responsive to blood flow changes than the blood vessels of nonsmokers. Healthier arteries are more responsive to changes in blood flow, and a reduced response may be an early indication of heart disease.
