In recent years, traditional physicians have become more accepting of vitamins, minerals, botanicals and other natural supplements, but acceptance is not the same as in-depth understanding. In this video, Dr. Andrew Rubman, naturopathic physician and author of Bottom Line’s “Nature Doc’s Patient Diary” blog, talks about the dangers that may arise when patients start taking supplements. First and foremost is the potential for natural products to cause unwelcome interactions with a patient’s prescription medications. It is crucial, Dr. Rubman warns, for people to have a medical professional on their team who knows how natural and prescription medications interact. Since medical doctors often don’t possess this knowledge, Dr. Rubman suggests that individuals should consult a naturopathic doctor who has training in both traditional and alternative medications.

Andrew Rubman, ND, is a teacher as well as a physician, helping his patients make better informed choices about their healthcare and become better consumers of both traditional and conventional medical options.  He is also a member of the Bottom Line Personal Panel of Experts.
