Diarrhea is a common condition that is often caused by overeating…a bacterial, viral or parasitic infection (yuck!)…mild food poisoning or intolerance…an adverse reaction to medicine…or emotional anxiety (that’s a nervous stomach!). Here’s what to do…

Apple cider vinegar (preferably unfiltered, available at health-food stores) will lessen the intensity of diarrhea and get you back in control in a relatively short time (usually a day).

What to do: Take one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar mixed in eight ounces of water, before meals, in between meals and after dinner to equal six glasses a day. That seems like a lot, but it’s worth it for all the good it does. The pectin (a natural fruit enzyme) in the vinegar will add bulk to the stools and help destroy some types of bacteria that can cause diarrhea.

Caution: If diarrhea persists for more than a day or two or is accompanied by serious pain, it may be a symptom of a more serious ailment. Seek professional medical help.
