Bottom Line/Personal: What’s the best wine to pair with a vegetarian meal?

Amy Dixon: I have a lot of vegetarian and vegan friends, and I take great pleasure in showing up with something really cool at their house, because it’s a lot of fun…because it can be a big challenge. I’m a huge fan of zucchini and summer squash and things like that in the summer, so I love doing it on the grill, and I’m a big fan of a spicy southern Italian red or a good Spanish red with that particular type of cuisine.

Vegetarian food, especially the savory style of vegetarian cuisine, lends itself to some pretty interesting reds that come from the south of France. So I tend to gravitate toward there.

Bottom Line: Interesting. In this case, it’s almost that you’re matching the wine to the seasoning of the food versus to the weight of the food.

Dixon: Exactly.
