If you use regular tap water to fill your humidifier, the water’s mineral deposits will build up and eventually clog the machine. You want clean, healthy air in the dry indoor heat! Here’s what to do…

If your humidifier is already clogged, fill the humidifier water receptacle with warm white vinegar (you can warm it on your stovetop in a nonreactive pot), and let it soak for a few hours. Also, soak the detachable parts (such as the impeller or rotating rod) in a large bucket with warm vinegar for the same amount of time. Pay attention while dissembling so that you remember how it all goes back together!

Then rinse and dry all soaking elements. Be careful not to get the motor wet.

To prevent clogs, use only distilled water (available at supermarkets and drugstores) to fill your humidifier.
