Have you noticed that supermarket fruit can be as hard as a brick? Food is picked way before it’s ready to eat to allow for travel time. Here’s a super-speedy way to ripe fruit…

Many fruits—including apples, pears, peaches, avocados and tomatoes—will ripen faster in a brown paper bag. The paper bag helps the natural fruit-ripening gases do their job.

How to speed up the ripening process: To gas up those gases, add a banana to the paper bag. Bananas release the extra ethylene needed to make fruit ripe…works great if you need guacamole fast (like in a day, depending on how ripe your avocadoes are to begin with)! Just remember to check your paper bag every day so that your fruit does not become mushy and overripe.
