Women wrinkle more around the lips than men do — but until now, no one knew why.

New finding: In women, skin near the mouth contains fewer sweat glands, oil glands and blood vessels, which may result in fewer natural skin fillers and less wrinkle-reducing circulation. Also, the closer attachment of muscle fibers to the skin surrounding women’s lips may cause inward traction.

The hope: This information may someday lead to improved wrinkle treatment.
