Are you thinking of throwing a Halloween party? Here’s a unique decorating trick we like…

Vintage photo revisions. Hunt through your local antique store for old (anonymous!) family photographs, and turn the subjects into scary creatures. For example, you can use a Sharpie and put a pair of devil ears on one of the subjects or a tail or a clown hat for some silly, spooky fun. If you’re adept at Photoshop, you can do what this artist did.

If you don’t live near an antique store, you can get free downloadable vintage photos here, or for more variety, visit ebay (search “vintage photographs”).

When you decorate your home for your party, bunch your scary, silly old photographs together in candle-lit corners of your Halloween lair, on fireplace mantels and on side tables. Your party guests will look at your old make-believe relatives and have a good laugh.

If you don’t want to mess up the originals, make multiple photocopies and experiment with your ghoulish embellishments.
