It Works…and Anyone Can Do It

A woman with rheumatoid arthritis was told by her doctor that she would be confined to a wheelchair within the year—but a year after that diagnosis, she’s taking her dog for long walks. A person with nonstop sciatica for 30 years achieved relief in one hour—and the pain never returned. A woman with skin ulcers from severe circulatory problems was scheduled for surgery to amputate her leg—but after four months, her wounds were completely healed and the surgery was canceled.*

What happened: All these people were treated with a simple form of energy healing that you can learn quickly and use to treat yourself, your family, your friends, even your pet.

How it works: Using deep breathing, steady attention and touch, energy healing enlivens and directs the life force, the fundamental energy that animates the body and the mind. The practitioner raises his/her energy level…that energy level then is matched by the recipient…and the life force does the healing. Scientists call this resonance and entrainment—similar to when a motionless tuning fork starts to vibrate at the frequency of an already-vibrating tuning fork.

Many ancient cultures discovered and used the life force in their healing modalities. For example, in China, it is called qi (or chi) and used in Qiqong (pronounced “chee-gong”), the therapeutic exercises of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In India, it is called prana and is used in pranayama, yogic breathing techniques for self-healing and spiritual development.

And there’s scientific evidence that energy healing works…

Standout research: In a study by researchers at University of Granada, Spain, energy healing calmed the parasympathetic nervous system (activated during the “fight-or-flight” response) of nurses suffering from burnout. In a study published in Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, researchers at University of Arizona found that laboratory rats subjected to daily noise stress had far less stress-caused damage to their circulatory systems when they received energy healing—and with rats, there is no placebo effect involved!

There are many modern forms of energy healing, such as therapeutic touch, polarity therapy and Reiki. I have developed a method of energy healing that I call Quantum-Touch. It simplifies the principles of energy healing, making the process so straightforward that anyone can become an effective energy healer.

Here is a condensed yet effective form of the technique for the readers of Bottom Line/Personal

THREE STEPS TO ENERGY HEALING

1. Breathe deeply. Conscious, deep breathing amplifies the life force. Try a simple “4 x 4” breath—inhale while you mentally count to four, and exhale doing the same. Continue to breathe deeply for the entire healing session.

2. Feel your love. I am not speaking of the love a mother has for a child or a husband for a wife. I mean giving your attention as an act of loving. I call this steady, focused attention on another person preconditional love—an instinctive, basic energy that has nothing to do with your background, race, religion, politics or belief. Like deep breathing, love amplifies energy—and that energy can move through your hands, regardless of your mood.

3. Put your hands on the area of pain or disease in the person’s body. As you do this, keep your hands relaxed (before you start, give them a bit of a light shake to let go of any tension), and don’t use any force or pressure—let the energy do the work. Most important, feel your hands (the literal physical sensation in your hands), feel your love coming through your hands as steady attention and feel your intention to heal. While continuing to breathe deeply and feel steadily, leave your hands on the painful or ailing area for five to 10 minutes. (Use common sense, of course. Don’t put your hands into a wound or touch a burn.)

HEALING SPECIFIC HEALTH PROBLEMS

You can use energy healing for a wide range of health problems. For best results, the recipient should be either seated or lying down, and you also should be comfortable. Don’t hold your body or your hands in an awkward position.

Pain relief. I tested energy healing on the men’s basketball team at the University of California-Santa Cruz and discovered that it provided an average of 50% pain reduction. Sandwiching a painful spot between your hands is an excellent way to enhance energy in that area, because having two points of contact creates a stronger energy field between you and the person you are working on.

Examples: For lower-back pain, put your hands on either side of the spine. For a headache on the top of the head, put one hand on the forehead and the other on the back of the head.

Don’t make assumptions about where the pain is—ask the person in pain to point to exactly where he/she is hurting.

The pain may move around during the session of energy healing. Before you start, ask the person you are working on to tell you if the pain shifts or moves. If it does, move your hands to the new area of pain.

Specific organs and glands. I have found that you can use energy healing for problems with any organ or gland. Putting your hands over the heart, for example, may improve blood pressure and heart arrhythmia. Putting your hands over the pancreas (toward the back of the left side of the body, behind and below the stomach) may help lower blood sugar in people with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes.

Self-healing. Use energy healing on yourself regularly and often. Just as when you use energy healing on a family member or friend, sandwich any part of your body that you can reach comfortably. (Of course, if you’re treating a problem such as tennis elbow, you will be able to use only one hand, which still is effective.)

Ailing animals. Energy healing has worked wonderfully on all sorts of animals, including dogs, cats, horses, rabbits—even turtles. As with people, sandwich with your hands any area that you think needs healing. (A diagnosis from a veterinarian may help you pinpoint the problem.)

DEALING WITH SKEPTICISM

If you’re a skeptic about energy healing, you’re not alone. Many people I work with started as skeptics, including Chris Duffield, PhD, a former visiting scholar at Stanford University. He became one of the coauthors of my book The New Human: Quantum-Touch 2.0. Chris’s advice…

Simply suspend your disbelief, and try it out. Don’t think about how energy healing is impossible. Act as though it were possible, which creates an opportunity for it to work if it’s going to work. Think of the skeptics who doubted Galileo and refused to look through the telescope. Those who did look saw the craters on the moon, the rings of Saturn and four moons around Jupiter—a new universe.

Energy healing is a view into the capabilities for healing that science has yet to fully confirm, but my work with thousands of people has shown it to be very real.
