Launched in November 2022, ChatGPT already has more than 100 million users. How to get started…
Go to Chat.OpenAI.com on a computer or mobile device. “Generative Pre-trained Transformer” (ChatGPT) is used through a browser such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge or Firefox.
Register for a free account. You must provide an e-mail and a mobile phone number and create a password.
Type your request into the query box. ChatGPT responds within seconds and remembers the question so you can fine-tune it.
Caveats…
Beware of apps that connect your smartphone or laptop to ChatGPT. There are no official mobile or desktop apps available now.
Use ChatGPT during nonpeak hours—early morning or at night. The paid version, ChatGPT Pro ($20/month), can be used during peak hours and has other features.
Be mindful about what you reveal. ChatGPT collects data about everything you say.
Understand its limitations. ChatGPT was trained on data from the Internet through only 2021, so answers won’t include information from 2022 or 2023.
