If you have a favorite nut (or seed) butter—whether it’s made from walnuts, pistachios, sunflower seeds, etc.—you don’t have to go to your supermarket or local natural-food store every time you want to stock up.

Making your own blend isn’t that difficult. All you need is a food processor or high-speed blender and a few healthful ingredients.

To create your own custom blend: Whiz up your favorite combination of nuts (roasted or raw) and/or seeds with a spoonful of healthful unrefined nut oil (such as peanut oil) or extra-virgin olive oil, if you like. (You don’t have to use oil, but it does add creaminess.) Toss in a favorite addition—such as cocoa powder, vanilla, cinnamon, coconut, chia or hemp…and sea salt, if desired, to taste. Store in an airtight container in the fridge—glass containers with a lid work nicely.

Enjoy your yummy creation!
