Don’t you just love cream-filled cupcakes? Here’s a simple way to make your favorite cupcake recipe with a surprise in the middle.

First, after your homemade chocolate (our favorite flavor…but you could use any flavor you like) cupcakes have cooled, take a smoothie-sized drinking straw and poke a hole in the middle of the top of each cupcake. Move the straw around a bit to make a bigger hole, then remove the straw. Next, fill a clean plastic freezer bag with vanilla frosting and cut a tiny hole in one corner of the bag. Now for the fun part—carefully pipe the frosting from the bag into the hole in the cupcake.

Note: If you want the cream to come as a surprise to the eater, place a chocolate chip…a raisin…or a piece of walnut on top of the cupcake to hide the cream hole. But we usually let the filling flow over and work it as a fancy swirl topping.

You can also use marshmallow fluff to fill your cupcakes, like in this recipe.

What a fun thing to do before the kids go back to school!
