Stuck-on magazine and newspaper pages, flowerpot residue, sticky paw prints…windowsills are catchalls for a lot of what gets left behind! Here’s what to use to get the tough stuff up and leave the painted surface spanking clean.

Combine equal amounts of rubbing alcohol and water, then wet a soft, lint-free cloth with the solution. Use it to wipe the sill clean. If you have stuck-magazine or newspaper on the sill, let the solution sit on the spots for at least an hour, then wipe away. We tested this on glossy water-soluble acrylic paint, and the gunk came up easily without any harsh chemical smells. If you have any other kind of paint that’s not glossy or not acrylic, we suggest you test a small section with the rubbing alcohol. Then again, it’s just a sill…easy to repaint. Do not use this solution on bare metal.
